Marta Varela is a postdoctoral fellow who joined the INIBIC team in 2013. She obtained her degree in biology in 2013, her master degree in biomedical research in 2014 and defended her doctoral thesis in 2018. She is trying to understand the molecular mechanism involved in the development and progression of osteoarthritis in order to find new therapeutic targets. She got a fellowship from “Deputación de A Coruña” in 2014, a predoctoral research Grant from “Xunta de Galicia” in 2015 and a predoctoral research grant from the University of A Coruña in 2016. She is member of the Spanish Rheumatology Society, and the Spanish Biochemical and Molecular Biology Society. She visited the UCD Conway Flow Cytometry Core at University College Dublin-Ireland for 3 months. She co-authored 3 articles and 1 submitted manuscript in international peer-reviewed journals. She supervises several master thesis students. Her results were selected for oral and poster presentation at international scientific conferences. Her work has been recently selected for a Star Award Talk at the International Gap Junction Conference 2019
